Why Jewellery and Why Pearl?
Everything starts from a simple obsession of self expression.
Hi everyone, I’m Weimin — the founder of Studio MuHe.
The name MuHe comes from Chinese, meaning Eyes and Rivers. I was inspired by a poetic line I love, which says “there are rivers between eyes.”
For me, MuHe carries a feeling of calm yet powerful strength. It also holds the imagery of looking into rivers — just as pearls are born from rivers, this vision became the starting point of my jewellery journey.
At Studio MuHe, we treasure every heart that longs for self-expression. We value individuality, uniqueness, and the beauty of wearing something that truly reflects who you are.
From Contextual Design to Jewellery
My entire design journey is deeply rooted in the Dutch design world.
During my bachelor’s at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where I majored in Jewellery and Linking Bodies, I explored the conceptual meaning of jewellery — how it connects to self-expression and how it shapes identity.
It was there that I began to care more about the caring side of jewellery: the confidence it can bring, the silent yet powerful statements we can make through our personal choices. This inspired me to begin working with unique pearls as the core of my practice.
Later, in my master’s at Design Academy Eindhoven, I was trained to think with more logic and research-based approaches. The transition from the academic world to life after graduation felt like a huge gap — but one thing never changed: my love and passion for jewellery.
That’s why Studio MuHe was born on the very first day I started my master’s program. If you ask me what it feels like to run a business alongside my studies? I’d say — it’s amazing. A challenge, yes, but also the most rewarding journey I could imagine.
